And homeschooling is no different.
I was homeschooled. I am now home-colleged. At least, being in an online program feels that way sometimes. But I'm not here to talk about distance learning....
I loved my experience as a homeschooler. Granted, it was a major boon that I had (and have) a large group of homeschooled friends. Maybe I wouldn't have liked it if I was the only one; I don't know. The point is, the following is not intended to slam homeschooling or homeschoolers. As a whole, homeschooling is a good thing (specifically for religious reasons...I'm not talking about people like Taylor Swift who just have such fabulously famous lives that they didn't have time to go to a regular school; granted it doesn't look like homeschooling did her any harm). But--and I say this very cautiously and respectfully--it can have its weaknesses, its downfalls and even its detriments.
So if you are a homeschooler, or were a homeschooler, or will be a homeschooler--or even if you aren't--I recommend this tremendous article that Josh Harris posted. Every homeschooling family is different, each have their strengths and weaknesses, but on a whole the author makes an extremely valid point that can only benefit those who take it to heart.
